To Greg- Thank you for telling me the name of the man who visited us last year...its been bothering me because I wanted to use it in my blogs. I also share your exact view on Malcolm as I started off with hating him but then as he changed his view and ideas and moved to regular Islam he saw that people could unite under one God. He realized this when he went to Mecca and saw blond-hair and blue-eyed Muslims as he describes it. Great post and thank you for the Daryl Davis's name.
To Josh Kramer-OOO I like your idea of trying to find the origin of the names. Although your link didn't really work I went ahead and researched myself the different names for blacks and asians. I think it is very interesting how they have come from different places around the world for many different reasons. I also agree with you that it is a shame to have the need to use a derogatory name.
To John-I was also disappointed in the way A-Rod handled his admission and following press conference. I also want to find out the other 103 names on the list since it would be fair to the public and Alex. I understand that they can't and it would be ever more unfair for the players. The only thing I'm lost on is how this relates to Malcolm, Harlem, or African-American struggles or does it not on purpose?
I connected the same article to Malcolm and the civil rights struggle. Throughout the book Malcolm constantly refers to racial slurs. When I first heard about the uproar caused by this picture and saw it, my initial reaction was how could one intend as racist. I thought that the cartoon was only based on the recent chimp attack. After starting the reading of malcolm though I began to see it in a different way and as a black man or woman I would be upset. This was a good post, article, and I enjoyed hearing your opinion.
